The Bottom Line

Receptra Naturals is a company founded in April 2016, based in Colorado that works together with family owned organic hemp farms to produce full-spectrum CBD products that are available in several strengths. They source their hemp locally in Colorado, follow GMP manufacturing protocol and provide 3rd party lab testing.

Receptra Naturals is a leading hemp oil and CBD products company serving the Health & Wellness, Active Lifestyle and Pet markets offering products in each category. Their “Pure Hemp” CBD Extract is made from hemp flowers using a method similar to the one used to make vanilla extract. They sell primarily full- spectrum CBD products, though two 0% THC products are available.

Looking at the website for Receptra Naturals, it seemed they were lacking information and failed to demonstrate transparency about the background of the company and the products. They did mention on the website that the hemp they use to manufacture their products is Colorado grown on a family owned farm, their products are full-spectrum, and they are third party tested.

The website and product itself is lacking in transparency and could be more clear on what products contain THC. They also do not show anywhere on the labels that there is <0.3%THC in their full spectrum products, which is slightly worrisome for the consumer who is sensitive to any THC.

Another lack of transparency is noted when the company chooses to list milligrams of cannabinoids and not specifically CBD on all of the labels and on the website.

They did share the third party testing CoA reports, and it was convenient to type in the code on the specific product and see the specific batch report. The website is kept up to date. Each product had a sticker on the bottom so that you could type in the code and look up the CoA.

A positive about the Receptra Naturals website is that it has a section on the third party testing tab that goes into depth about the potency, specific cannabinoids that are listed on the reports, and potential risk factors to look out for on CoA reports. It is probably too much information for the average consumer who knows nothing about the science of the hemp flower but it is nice that it is there for the seasoned user who likes to learn about the plant and process of extraction in depth. Something that could be made more clear on the label and printed in larger type for every consumer is the percent of THC in the product since they sell both broad spectrum and full spectrum tinctures.

Regarding price, after comparing Receptra Naturals with other products of the same size and quality, it seems the pricing is comparable for the active line of tinctures, higher for the larger size of tinctures in the other categories and slightly high for the topicals. It is useful they provide different sizes of tinctures so consumers can have the option of spending less and trying a product before committing. Tincture prices range from $24.95 for the “active” all the way up to $249.95 for the “pro”, with a range of $0.02 per CBD mL to $0.24 per CBD mL. The buying process is fairly simple. There is a customer support robot chat available that was fairly slow to respond to my questions.

Pros

  • Simple label and colors are neutral and clean looking.
  • Directions on label are precise and concise.
  • Suggested serving size for tincture consumption based on weight is ideal for a new user.
  • Offers 0% THC products.

Cons

  • The targeted topical smells too much like hemp or cannabis and is unpleasant.
  • The body butter consistency is not ideal and does not absorb effectively.
  • It is unclear what the difference is between the body butter and the targeted topical.
  • The labels are not that easy to read which does not help the consumer to differentiate between products, it seems they all contain similar ingredients but claim different effects.
  • The 0% THC tincture and the other tinctures are hard to distinguish for the consumer who is new to the space. It seems like it could be an easy mistake to take the tinctures with THC because the label is too small.
  • They do not have gummies.

About The Company

Receptra Naturals is a Colorado based company and does not seem to have a strong presence in the CBD market compared to other brands currently. They sell CBD products online at this time and have two lines of hemp oil products; active lifestyle and health & wellness along with a pet line. The health and wellness line, labeled as the prime and plus labels are geared towards those who are new to using CBD and who wish to use it for advanced health and wellness needs.

Manufacturing Process

Receptra Naturals has a few areas on their website that cover the manufacturing process from seed to soil to final product. Each batch of the Receptra Naturals hemp oil is submitted for third party testing. They share all of their testing results with customers to ensure full transparency in their products and processes. This allows them to guarantee consistent, pure hemp extracts.

According to the website, their farmers cultivate their own hemp seed, ensuring that it meets the highest standards and fulfills all of the requirements of the Colorado Department of Agriculture. They start with organic, quality seed and soil located in a fertile Colorado valley that was once known as a mecca of agricultural production for surrounding towns. They also state on their website they harvest by hand. During the on site processing, the flowers are naturally sun dried. Then they are ready for the conversion to Receptra Naturals pure CBD Oil through clean cold ethanol extraction. The most common method for using cold ethanol to minimize extraction of water-solubles is the Quick Wash Ethanol Technique (QWET). To maintain low temperatures, both the ethanol and the cannabis are cooled to below -20°C, ideally with dry ice. They claim to use cold extraction to preserve terpenes and other cannabinoids. This ensures effectiveness and gives the product a green tint. The pure product is then handed off to their in house chemist to provide the finishing touches required to create the Receptra Naturals products.

Range of Products

The range of products is wide, covering tinctures, topicals, pet and even a bundle with all of the products. The range of topicals is not very differentiating but the range of tinctures is more specialized, which is beneficial for consumers who are trying to decide on what ingestible to use. The current special offer is 15% off all orders if you enter your email on the website. The company offers free shipping on all orders, and they offer a bundle deal with a combination of products.

Tinctures

The tinctures start with the “Active Tincture”, that has curcumin and mint providing benefits ranging from energy to focus. This tincture contains from 250mg of cannabinoids to 500mg cannabinoids to 1000 mg cannabinoids, priced from $24.95 to $79.95. The product does contain THC, but it is unclear on the label.

The Receptra “Elite Tincture” contains 1000mg of cannabinoids and claims to optimize mental and physical performance with 0% THC. It is priced at $89.95, but there seems to be little to no difference in ingredients from the other tinctures.

The Receptra “Elite Tincture with 0%THC” contains 1000mg of cbd and is priced at $89.95. This product seems to contain the same tincture ingredients as the Elite Tincture without any THC, making it broad-spectrum.

The Receptra “Plus Tincture” claims to support health and wellness naturally and contains 750mg, 1500mg, and 3000mg of cannabinoids. The price ranges from $74.95 to $199.95. There is no curcumin in this tincture but it has mint and an added berry flavor.

The Receptra “Prime Tincture” is listed on the website as being the best tincture for newcomers and ranges from $39.95 to $134.95 for 375mg, 750mg and 1500mg cannabinoid tinctures. The ingredients seem to be similar to the plus tincture.

And for the most costly tincture, the Receptra “Pro CBD Tincture” ranges in price from $79.95 to $249.95. The company states that it is useful for those who wish to take their active lifestyle to the next level. There is very little difference in ingredients in this product as well. The size ranges from 1000mg, 2000mg, to 4000mg of cannabinoids. The other tinctures on the website are the Plus Tincture, Pro Tincture and Pet Tincture that come in various sizes of container and cannabinoid dose.

Buying Experience

We ordered the following products and we wish to share our thoughts and experience for each. The website has a customer service chat but it is only available during the hours of operations for the company. They also have an area where you can enter your email address so that they can get back to you as soon as possible once they return. And at the top of the chat it gives the timeframe that it usually takes for the chatbot to get back to you, mine said 7 minutes. No one got back to me on the live chat and I am still waiting for someone to email me back. The check-out process was simple. After adding a product to the cart, it was ready to have a credit card added and shipped. It seems like the overall buying experience is seamless on this website at the very least. The unboxing of the product was pleasant and each product was carefully wrapped. The site was easy to use overall and it only took three days to receive the product.

Products Reviewed

Body Butter

400 mg CBD per container. It is described on the site as a product designed to naturally moisturize and restore skin’s youthful look and feel. It also mentions it has a soothing natural scent accentuated with therapeutic jasmine and camphor as well as vitamin E that can assist your skin’s ability to remove free radicals. The product is claimed to calm skin irritation and reduces minor blemishes and bruises. After unpacking this product, wrapped tightly in bubble wrap, this product contained minimal information on the label about how to use it. The body butter smells nice and has a soft appearance. When used it took time for it to fully absorb into the skin. It also felt greasy on the skin with an overabundance of oil.

Targeted Topical

Targeted topical contains 400mg of CBD per container. Receptra Targeted Topical is semmingly thoughtfully formulated to target irritated areas of your body and speed recovery. Mentioned on the website, this all natural pure hemp CBD topical keeps you at peak performance, with added arnica and jojoba to help minimize swelling and inflammation, soothing jasmine and ylang-ylang to promote efficient recovery of muscles and joints, and camphor to open pores for better delivery. This product was also wrapped in bubble wrap and after removing from the package, I noticed there was no directions on the product concerning how to use it, just ingredients listed on the lid. The greenish color was not very appealing and the hemp smell was not pleasant. It was also unexpected, since they mention it contains jasmine. But the product does seem to absorb more effectively into the skin than the body butter. I rubbed this product on my hand and it did absorb more quickly, within a few minutes.

Soothing Lip Balm

The soothing lip balm contains 15mg of CBD and claims to naturally revitalize lip health and wellness and restore a youthful look and feel to your lips. It contains zinc oxide for sun protection. It had a great scent, absorbed fairly well into the lips and is an overall affordable product for someone who wants to try a mini topical. It was also packaged in bubble wrap in the box and the product did have directions for use and ingredients on the label.

Plus Tincture 750mg

The plus fresh berry tincture has a strong musky scent that is almost mint like and contains 750mg cannabinoids. The unpackaging process was the same as the topicals, each tincture was wrapped in bubble wrap and sealed. They do a great job trying to cover up the CBD smell. The tincture is viscous in consistency, not very enjoyable to take sublingually and has a dark green tint, which they claim is the chlorophyll being picked up from the plant during the extraction process. I do like the fact that they have the numbers on the dropper, making it convenient for the consumer to know how much they are taking.

Pro Tincture 1000mg

The pro fresh berry tincture contains 1000mg cannabinoids and has the same smell and consistency as the plus but it has more CBD and seemed to make me feel a bit more drowsy. This product was also wrapped in bubble wrap and sealed in the package it was delivered in. The viscosity is the same, thick and sticky and it also has a dark green tint imparted by chlorophyll. Again, convenient that it has the numbers on the tincture.

Pet Tincture 250mg

This tincture contains 250mg cannabinoids and It has the same viscosity as the other tinctures- thick and sticky with a green tint as well. This product was also sealed and wrapped in bubble wrap in the package it was delivered in. It had a hemp scent and a light mint scent, but overall it smelled distasteful, at least to a human.
