Lazarus Naturals has a great online reputation, and there is quite a bit of information and positive feedback about the company and their products on online forums. They offer a nice selection of products ranging from standard to high potency CBD, so that both first- and long-time users of CBD will find something that suits their fancy. Take your pick from their selection of tinctures, topicals, capsules, coconut oil, RSO (better known as Rick Simpson Oil), isolates and even pet products. Lazarus Naturals source all their hemp from Oregon, a location that has been identified as near perfect for growing hemp. It is the third largest hemp-growing region in the United States, since it has the mild climate and slightly humid atmosphere that hemp plants thrive on.
Despite CO₂ extraction being a more popular extraction method, Lazarus Naturals use kosher ethanol in their extraction process, a cheaper process that, when not performed perfectly, leaves some traces of solvent in your CBD extract. This might put some people off, considering that this method often produces CBD extract that is not as clean. However, Lazarus Naturals publishes their test results almost religiously, and are very transparent about the results. Residual solvent testing detects the presence of any residual solvents and impurities that would make the extract dangerous for consumption. Since Lazarus Naturals goes to great lengths to clean their extract of all trace amounts of solvents, we cannot fault them for using this extraction method. They seem to be one of the few companies that are using this method successfully to produce clean CBD. Because ethanol-extraction is usually cheaper, they are also able to offer their products at a very reasonable price point.
When it comes to price, we really have nothing to complain about. Calculating the price per mg of CBD is the most effective way to judge CBD prices across the board. Lazarus Naturals is cheaper than all other well-known, reputable brands we looked at. Essentially, you are paying between 3 and 4 cents per mg of CBD for Lazarus Naturals products, high potency and standard potency. For a high potency product containing between 750 and 6000 mg, the price ranges from $32 to $200. With products containing as much as 6000mg, you will spend $200 maximum. For other brands, you can pay anything from 5 to 37 cents per mg CBD.
Lazarus Naturals gives open access to their lab results, and it was this transparency that enabled them to clear their name when NBC reportedly found high lead levels in their products. Because the products NBC tested did not have corresponding batch numbers, it was clear that these were counterfeit products. Of course, now the issue of imitation products arises. Since they are so well-known and popular, they have to spend time assisting merchants with removing counterfeit products from unapproved marketplaces. Customers should make sure that they buy only from approved marketplaces and check that the batch number on their products correspond with those on Lazarus Natural’s website.
This, to me, signifies a company that has nothing to hide and has an open door policy. It is easy to contact them either through their contact form, by email or telephone. They are responsive and seem eager to help.
If you want to support a “mom & pop” style American business, Lazarus Naturals should be high on the list. Although not literally owned by a mom and pop, the Seattle-based company is entirely employee-owned and they are very transparent about their products and processes. The founder, Sequoia Price-Lazarus, started the company in 2014 with a mission to provide high-quality CBD that is both accessible and affordable for all. He personally launched the Assistance Program which offers a lifetime 60% discount to veterans; those on long-term disability; and to low-income households. This mission is prominent within their company and seems to get them a lot of attention. Judging by their customer reviews where buyers thank them repeatedly for this program, they definitely found their foothold in this market. You can read more about the team on their website, where they introduce a few of their c-level executives and explain their individual responsibilities on the About Us page.
They have an excellent reputation for high-potency, affordable CBD manufactured in the United States, Oregon specifically. Their approach to CBD accessibility is well-known and therefore many clients seem to take advantage of their Assistance Program. They offer both standard and high potency CBD products, catering to a larger audience that uses CBD for different applications. You also have a choice between full-spectrum and pure CBD isolate hemp extracts.
They are very transparent about their processes and third-party lab test results. They provide batch numbers with the corresponding lab test results on every product page so that customers can see the results for the specific batch of product they purchased. Every one of their products is marked with a batch number on the label. A QR code on every label provides quick access to more information about your product.
They devote considerable energy to informing their customers by maintaining an extensive and informative blog that is updated with news and facts about CBD.
In February, 2019 NBC News reported on potentially hazardous lead levels in Lazarus Naturals products. Lazarus Naturals responded with an official statement after speaking to NBC about their findings. Apparently, NBC had purchased the Lazarus Naturals products on Groupon, a site that Lazarus Naturals has never collaborated with. The products in question also did not contain any batch numbers matching those that Lazarus Naturals apply to their products. They mentioned in their statement that they had been working to remove counterfeit Lazarus Naturals products from unapproved marketplaces. They also noted that the products that NBC had purchased from their official website had passed a full panel of testing.
As of 2019, about 70% of Lazarus Naturals industrial hemp is sourced from their own farms. Lazarus Farms is located in the High Desert of Central Oregon. All their full-spectrum products and some isolate products are manufactured using their own hemp. They are very conscious of what goes into their fields and therefore into their product, and thus employ sustainable farming methods to produce the best quality ingredients. The remaining 30% of their hemp is sourced from authorized growers in Oregon. Since USDA and FDA certification for hemp is still pending, they only source from farms that adhere to the certification process of the Oregon Department of Agriculture (ODA) Hemp Research Pilot Program. This program is setting the standard for what the optimal growing conditions of hemp are in Oregon. Tey monitor toxins in the soil, climate, methodology and more.
Lazarus Naturals is a board member of the US Hemp Farmers Alliance and are active in assessing the ideal growing conditions for the hemp plant. At the moment, hemp cannot be certified organic due to the way the regulations are set up by the USDA and FDA. These regulations are currently being modified due to changes initiated by the 2018 Farm Bill that legalized hemp in all 50 states. The USDA launched a pilot program for the organic certification of hemp. One of the things to be regulated will be the limits for toxins present in the soil. Because there is no standard currently, Lazarus Naturals is following the American Herbal Pharmacopoeia (AHP) monograph on cannabis which sets a higher standard than that implemented by the USDA. Lazarus Naturals have implemented the necessary processes so that they will be one of the first to be fully organic certified by 2022.
All Lazarus Naturals products are tested extensively in-house and by a third party. Each shipment of hemp undergoes an initial test for heavy metals, pesticides, and potency. After the extraction is completed, the same test is done to test for residual solvents (in this case ethanol). They use cane ethanol as a solvent for extraction, this is the same type that you would find in alcoholic drinks and therefore is safe for consumption. When producing CBD isolate, a final test for potency and residual solvents is performed. All final batches are tested again for potency and undergoes a quality analysis by a third-party laboratory. Lazarus Naturals publishes these third-party test results on their product pages, and updates them with every new batch. Looking at these results, the CBD content for the tincture from batch BC33(A) that we received contains 15.7 mg CBD per serving, 0.7 mg more than stated on the label. The results for heavy metals and pesticides were all below the limit of quantitation.
The ethanol extraction method differs from CO₂ extraction in that the result is an extract that contains more of the plant lipids, chlorophyll and other compounds from the plant. Ethanol extraction is cheaper, and can result in extract with some residual solvent. For this reason many individuals prefer CO₂ extraction. However, there is evidence that the additional plant lipids and chlorophyll can be beneficial for the consumer. The trick here is to retain those compounds, while still ensuring the extract is free of any residual solvent. Lazarus Naturals has proven that this can be done. They are safeguarded by current Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) guidelines.
Lazarus Naturals have a great range of products, and they cover many different applications by offering a choice between tinctures, capsules, isolates, coconut oil, pet products and topicals. They provide a lot of information on their product pages. Apart from a detailed description of each product, there are three other tabs with additional information, customer reviews and the test results where you can look up the results for your specific CBD batch number. Looking specifically at their flavored and unflavored options, they offer a good variety of products within the range they have available.

For beginners, we suggest the Standard Potency Pack.

For our purposes, we selected 2 day shipping and our order arrived promptly on the second day. The packaging was neat and clearly labeled. The box with our samples was filled with styrofoam packing peanuts to ensure that the items didn’t break. All the products were also securely sealed.
When we contacted Lazarus Naturals for some feedback on their process, we left a voicemail on their customer service line. They called back within the hour and were very responsive. They were happy to discuss their extraction process and the reasons for choosing ethanol extraction above CO₂ extraction, stating that it allows them to offer the product at a more reasonable price point, and their products contains additional compounds from the hemp plant that have been shown to be beneficial for the consumer.
We wanted to try a selection of products and purchased the Full Spectrum Standard Potency Pack at a very reasonable $38. The High Potency Sample Pack is available for $58.
The Standard Potency Full Spectrum CBD Tincture contains 225 mg of CBD and sells for $12. That is 15mg full-spectrum CBD per ml serving. Lazarus Naturals uses an ethanol-based extraction process. For their CBD tincture, the extract is diluted with fractionated coconut oil to achieve an accurate CBD concentration at the potency that is being manufactured. (Fractionated coconut oil is used since it remains liquid, even at lower temperatures.) The THC content of all their CBD products is below 0.3% as determined by lab testing. You can find the batch number of your product on the label and look at the test results for that specific batch on their website. Our tincture from Batch 33(A) was reported to have less than 1.75mg THC per ml of tincture.
To maintain purity and quality, their Standard Potency Full Spectrum CBD Tincture is unflavored and additive free. They do have a number of infused tinctures flavored with terpenes and extracts. The unflavored tincture has a distinct grassy flavor that originates from the organic compounds the oil is derived from. This full-spectrum extract has a dark green hue, with a fairly low viscosity. Because of the low viscosity, we found it easier to work with and dose. It comes in a glass bottle with a clearly marked medicine dropper for dosing.
Sizes available are 0.5 oz and 2 oz, containing 300mg and 1200mg CBD respectively. We purchased the 0.5 oz container which is available for $15. It was a little hard to open since some of the balm had leaked and made the tin container extremely slippery (this might be due to the heatwave it had to travel through to get to Texas). Another packaging option might need to be considered if this problem persists, but it did not affect our enjoyment of the product.
The lavender scent is strong but not overpowering. The balm is smooth and is absorbed into the skin quite easily, leaving your skin moist but without an oily residue. The balm is made with all-natural, plant-derived scents. The ingredients include organic mango butter, organic beeswax, fractionated coconut oil, lavender oil and hemp extract.
The product comes in the form of an opaque capsule that is vegan and gluten-free with no artificial flavors, preservatives or sweeteners This is a great option for exact dosing. A bottle of 10 capsules sells for $15. The label mentions that it might take up to 2 hours to experience the full effect of the CBD. Keep in mind that the time it takes will change depending on whether you took it on a full or empty stomach. The serving size is one capsule, with 25mg CBD per capsule.
We found it to be a good quality product. The label has a QR code that links directly to their product page that gives you more information on the capsules, as well as the test results for your particular batch.
